Remove EXE.exe From Your PC

Exe.exe is a piece of two different malware programs -- and it's very important that you remove it from your system to maintain your PC's security and well being. Below is a description of exe.exe and instructions on how to remove it.

Just What Is Exe.exe?

Firstly, a worm that travels via MSN named Bropia deposits exe.exe on your system. If your PC becomes infected with Bropia, the worm then starts an IRC robot that is called Rbot.BTK which then tries to spread itself via MSN in the exact same manner as how it infected your own computer. So essentially, exe.exe is a vital component of the Rbot.BTK robot. Without you knowing or allowing it to, the bot loads MSN messenger and asks each and every one of your contacts to visit a web site. If they do visit this web site, they are at risk of being infected by a specially crafted PIF file.

Second, there is another malware program that deposits a file called exe.exe but it is rare and most likely much older. The program is called xlite and uses a file called exe.exe to do its dirty work, which includes: dialing other systems through a modem, attempting to download pornography, charge costs to your phone bill and seriously hurt your system performance. The good news is that this malware will only truly harm users of dialup modems and these types of users are becoming more and more hard to find.

How to Check if Exe.exe Has Infected Your System

The first thing you should do is check whether or not you are infected with malware that uses exe.exe. Start by loading task manager through the key combination Control + Alt + Delete. Now switch to the tab that says Processes. Click the Image Name heading to sort all the processes on your system by their names. Look in the alphabetically sorted list for one called exe.exe. If you do not see it, then your PC is safe from this infection. Otherwise, you need to search for the file on your system by clicking Start, then Run, then type in exe.exe. If you find the file then all you have to do is delete it. It's also a really good idea to run an antivirus scan to ensure all infectious files have been removed.
